Select Board · Meeting of March 24, 2026

Buckland confronts a $300,000 fiscal 2027 deficit as the Select Board weighs a property tax override. The biggest driver is a $296,787 jump in the Mohawk Trail Regional School District assessment, plus a 73 percent, $93,000 spike in health insurance. Finance Committee member Abby Strauss pitched a new services agreement with the ARMS Library, saying "it's not a good idea for a municipality to be giving unrestricted funds to a non-profit," with the town's contribution potentially dropping from about $28,300 to $25,500; no vote was taken.

The Board of Health plans an April 28 hearing on a "nicotine-free generation" tobacco rule already adopted in roughly 25 Massachusetts towns. The board also learned a drainage fix on Charlemont Road is on hold under a wetlands enforcement order from conservation agent Kelly Cowell. Routine votes, including a sewer-rate correction and warrant approvals, passed unanimously.
