Buckland Select Board heard an update on a proposed Mohawk Trail-Hawlemont school merger expected to cost the town about $17,700 a year in feasibility fees. Superintendent Cheryl Stanton and Martha Thurber told the board all eight member towns must unanimously approve entering an 18-month, $1.2 million feasibility study by the end of March, with the Massachusetts School Building Authority covering at least 63.5 percent. Construction of a consolidated pre-K-12 campus could run $30 million to $40 million, with eight towns owing up to $917,000 a year combined.
The board also approved parade permits for the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moonlight Magic, and fielded extended public comment on a contested Route 112 sidewalk project, with resident Marie saying, "I've worked really hard to be fact-based," while the board maintained the design vote is final and funding would be lost if reopened.
