Select Board · Meeting of May 12, 2026

BUCKLAND — The Buckland Select Board heard an hour-plus of divided testimony on a Route 112 sidewalk but declined to take a position. MassDOT's 25 percent design would run a sidewalk from North Street to Mohawk Trail Regional School and on to the Buckland Recreation Area; abutter Marie Bartlett said the project would add 18.5 feet of pavement and remove 57 trees she counted, and argued "there hasn't been a clear set of communications" with the public. Resident Jeff Kang called it "a huge shame and scandal" that children walk the corridor unprotected, while Mike McCusker urged the board not to "wait until" someone is hurt.

Town Administrator Pam said the board, not the state, has final say on the sidewalk but needs more information before deciding. The board separately approved a one-day liquor license for a West County Baseball tournament, a storage container for Buckland Shelburne Youth Baseball, the 2026 town election warrant and a VFW parade permit, all unanimously, and noted a $500,000 override and Mohawk school assessment remain unresolved ahead of the June 2 town election.
